Postpartum Care Home Visits

Here at Missouri Midwifery we want to help you through every step of having your baby. This includes postpartum care, which is extremely important in easing mothers and families back into their normal home routines. Postpartum care home visits allow us to assess how well you and your baby are acclimating to life back at home. At Missouri Midwifery we offer 8 weeks of postpartum care since those first weeks are usually the toughest. We aim to ease any difficulties you may come across in those first 8 weeks.

What Happens During a Home Visit?

During a home visit, we make sure you and your baby are healthy. We want to know how you’re feeling both mentally and physically. In addition to this, we can answer any questions you might have. Above all else, we want to be there for you and your baby. Knowing a professional will be coming around occasionally after having your baby can be very comforting. We want to make sure you and your family are doing everything right to happily welcome your new family member.

What Should I Expect After Having My Baby?

The first 8 weeks after giving birth is known as the postpartum recovery period, which is what we structure our postpartum care around. It’s very common for you to experience an array of postpartum side effects. These are nothing to be scared of and home visits allow us to alleviate your stress by giving you ideas on what you can do to help or relieve these symptoms.

Some common postpartum symptoms are:

  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Perineal pain or discomfort
  • Constipation or trouble urinating
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Fatigue
  • Breast discomfort
  • Achy Back
  • Postpartum Depression

All of these symptoms are extremely common, but we really want to stress that the mental and physical well-being of you and your baby are our top priority. If any symptoms pop up or are persisting, let your postpartum care nurse know. They will know the best solutions to your problems.
